Joey Desjardins

Joey Desjardins became a paraplegic in 2009 and soon after realized the power that sports can provide. Now a full-time athlete for Cycling Canada – Para division, he climbed the ranks on the next-gen team and now national team since his career debut in 2014. His focus has been to one day compete in the Paralympics — a dream realized when he qualified for the 2021 Tokyo summer games.

He has competed internationally at more than 10 World Cups and 3 World Championships, having attained his first podium in 2019 at the Belgium World Cup, placing 3 rd in the Road Race.

Joey is a very active wheelchair user who makes his skin care a top priority. With two young daughters and his racing career, he tends to be cautious to prevent pressure injuries. Thanks to innovations in seating, such as Supracor’s Stimulite ® honeycomb cushions, he can rest assured he is being vigilant.

What’s next for Joey: qualifying to compete in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, France.
